Asbestos Symptoms From Asbestos Exposure

Asbestos Symptoms from exposure of asbestos usually do not show up until years later AFTER the chronic exposure. The time it takes is usually 15 to 30 years after. Smokers may have symptoms show up earlier.

First occurring asbestos symptoms from asbestos exposure are usually shortness of breath happening even when not being overly active. More symptoms that could indicate an asbestos related disease are:

  • A chronic cough that produces mucus
  • A tight feeling in ones chest and / or chest pain
  • A crackling sound when inhaling your breath
  • Along with loss of appetite

It is absolutely imperative that if you suspect asbestos symptoms due to exposure to asbestos, you meet with your doctor as soon as possible. Early detection may help delay an onset of even worse health conditions.

Other Symptoms:

Pleural abnormalities (this is the lining of the chest cavity on the outside of a persons lungs), is another symptom that may show up. These types of abnormalities may include plaques and thickening, pleural calcification, and even pleural mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma and Lung Cancer Symptoms from Asbestos

Mesothelioma used to be a rare cancer. It shows up in the lining of the chest cavity or the abdominal area called the peritoneum. Most mesothelioma cancers today are caused by asbestos exposure.

Asbestos symptoms of lung cancer may include chronic coughing, coughing up blood, wheezing, weight loss without dieting, labored breathing and shortness of breath, chest pain, hoarse voice and even anemia.

These symptoms do not absolutely mean you have lung cancer, yet you should consult your doctor as soon as possible if these symptoms are chronic — especially if you have ever been exposed to asbestos!

Most asbestos symptoms are respiratory related, yet some studies have indicated stomach and intestinal problems as well. Unfortunately, no studies have been found to prove asbestos exposure can also cause stomach or colon cancer symptoms

Long term asbestos exposure can cause symptoms to occur many years after the exposure — 15 to 30 years after. This can make the diagnosis extremely difficult because you may not have even known you were exposed to asbestos.

If you or a family member are experiencing asbestos symptoms and have been diagnosed with an asbestos disease, you may wish to learn about asbestos lawsuits as you may be entitled to compensation.

My late husband and his father removed asbestos from the basement of our two family home that we owned before we purchased the one I currently own. It was in that home that the two of them removed asbestos with face masks and coveralls. They most certainly were not protected and my father in law passed away at age 64 of cancer that wss throat and then they nicked his artery and it went to the lungs. Then my late husband passed away at age 49 from a brain tumor that he had for seven years. We just recently learned that my mother in law, who was also down in the basement of the two family home from time to time while they were removing the asbestos, has stage 3c ovarian cancer. Strange that they all passed away with such a monstrous disease. Not sure if you have heard of anything like this before or not. Sincerely,

    Janice L. Jamrosz
